These are live, six-week computing courses for girls in grades 7 through 12, taught on Zoom by a working cybersecurity professional. The groups are small and the projects are real. Your daughter will be in a class with other girls who like building things as much as she does.

What CaT for Girls is
CaT stands for Computing and Technology. Each course runs for six weeks and meets live on Zoom for one 75-minute class a week. Each class is capped at twelve students, so every girl gets attention and gets to talk. Every course runs as two separate classes, one for grades 7 and 8 and one for grades 9 through 12. Both classes cover the same topic, taught at the level that fits the age in the room.
Girls work on their own devices. There is nothing to buy and nothing to install. Each course stands on its own, so your daughter can start with any topic and take them in any order.
The four topics
Intro Python
She starts at the first line of code and works toward a project she writes herself. At the end of the six weeks, she can show it to you.
Cybersecurity
She learns how attackers actually operate and how defenders stop them. The class covers passwords, encryption, and safe habits, and it is taught by someone who does this work for a living.
Future-Proof: Using AI the Right Way
She learns to use AI safely and to direct it rather than defer to it. The goal is that she can judge what it gives her instead of trusting it blindly.
Behind the Screen
She learns how the internet actually works, from the message she sends to the servers that carry it. The class covers material from AP Computer Science Principles, so it is useful preparation for students in grades 9 through 12.

Who teaches it, and why CaT exists
Kelsey Ewing, M.S. works in network operations for the State of California and holds a master’s degree in cybersecurity. In high school she was a FIRST Robotics world champion in 2015 and served as President of the National Honor Society. In college she served as President of her campus student chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and Vice President of her campus student chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). She earned more than 40 scholarships, and they funded both of her degrees. She won most of them during her senior year of high school and earned many more while she was in college. No existing degree matched the combination of subjects she wanted, so she worked with Fresno State to build one. It became a special major in Cybersecurity and Information Systems in the Lyles College of Engineering.
CaT is not a new idea. It is a relaunch. As a high school junior, Kelsey was a state winner of the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Award for Aspirations in Computing. As a senior she won at both the state and the national level. She then applied for an NCWIT grant and won it. She used that grant to create the original Computing and Technology program for girls in grades 7 through 11, and she ran it during her senior year with students from Alta Sierra Intermediate and Buchanan High School. She built it to bring more girls into STEM fields, especially computer science and computer engineering, where women are outnumbered.
She sees that same imbalance today in her own work. That is why CaT is coming back, with new courses beginning in January 2027, taught by the woman who created it and now does the job. Your daughter will learn technology from someone who does this for a living.
When courses run
Courses run throughout the year, and each one lasts six weeks. Classes meet on a weekday evening at 6:00 PM. The 2027 schedule, including the confirmed day of the week and the dates for each topic, goes out to the interest list before enrollment opens.
Why grades 7 through 12
These are the years when most girls decide whether technology is for them. When a girl builds something that actually works, sitting alongside other girls doing the same thing, she starts to believe she can do this.
What she carries forward is more than the code. It shows up in the courses she is willing to sign up for, the clubs she is willing to join, and eventually the majors and the scholarships she believes she is qualified for.
2027 courses begin in January.
The interest list gets first notice when enrollment opens, along with the schedule, the day, and the time. It costs nothing to join, and joining commits you to nothing.
